Bracknell Roofing enjoyed delivering roofing tiling and lead work services on behalf of client Jones Homes Yorkshire Limited for their new build project, at Simpson Park located in Harworth, Nottingham. The project involved various house types and began in February 2019.
We are especially proud to be involved with the Simpson Park project, which won a prestigious National House Building Council (NHBC) “Pride in the Job 2019” award. The 39th NHBC Pride in the Job competition and awards celebrates the exceptional contribution talented Site Managers make in delivering homes of the highest standard.
Ian Lockwood was the skilled Site Manager on the Simpson Park site who displayed well-organised management and coordination of all aspects of the project, earning him a coveted NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award for the East Region.
The Simpson Park site involved a selection of different house types, which all had individual aspects making each house truly unique.
Russell Roof Tiles Dry Ridge, Dry Verge and Dry Hip Systems were used, along with Dry Fix Valleys. All roof tiles were nailed or clipped in accordance with the manufacturers’ specification and BS (British Standard) 5534, whilst all ridge and hip tiles were mechanically fixed, again complying with the manufacturers’ specification and BS 5534. BS 5534 is the nationally recognised code of practice for installing slates and tiles onto new-build pitched roofs.
All low-level verges were mortar bedded on 1:3 (cement: sharp sand) mortar and mechanically fixed. We were also pleased to carry out leadwork on all the flashings on the low-level roofs and on the box gutters on the main roofs, to supply and install the firebreak and to install the insulation and felt support trays to the eaves, which were supplied by Jones Homes.
Jones Homes Yorkshire Ltd recognised that Bracknell Roofing has an unwavering commitment to efficiency, high-quality service and the strictest safety standards. Not only was Bracknell Roofing able to deliver roof tiling services that compiled with BS 5534 and NHBC Standards section 7.2 (pitched roofs), but, with strategic planning and strong communication, were able to ensure that the correct materials were ordered on-site for each individual plot. By our roofing operatives keeping in regular contact with the site management team via phone and email, we were able to smartly and successfully schedule labour and materials so we could keep to Jones Homes’ programme and time frames.
Knowing that consistency, as well as strong communication, helps to build trust, we were able to ensure that the same operatives attended and worked on the Simpson Park site and that these operatives also live locally. This demonstrates one of the advantages of working with Bracknell Roofing, we have the resources and capabilities of a national roofing company but the personal approach of a smaller outfit, with a local branch network across the country.
Our roofing team all attended site inductions and regular on-site toolbox talks, which ensured everyone knew of and complied with the latest health and safety regulations, along with the roofing technical specification required.
“We are delighted about winning a “Pride in the Job 2019” award on one of our New Build projects, Jones Homes, Harworth.
“This is a fantastic achievement for us as a company and a credit to all operatives involved.
“Ian Lockwood is an experienced Site Manager with exceptional organisation skills which has helped to run things smoothly and efficiently.
“Howard York [Bracknell Roofing Yorkshire Branch Manager] Ian Lockwood and I have developed a strong trusting relationship which has proven important in ensuring the correct materials are on site at the time works are ready to commence, avoiding delays. This gave operatives the time they needed to achieve outstanding workmanship.”
Dale Yates, Contacts Manager, Bracknell Roofing.
