Client: Miller Homes
Location: Southwater, West Sussex
Services: Roof Tiling, Leadwork
The roofing project at Mulberry Fields, on the edge of picturesque Southwater near Horsham in West Sussex, was for regular client Miller Homes. The client has a five-star rating from the National House-Building Council (NHBC). A largely for-sale development, Mulberry Fields is an energy-efficient neighbourhood of two, three, four, and five-bedroomed houses. The overall scheme consists of almost 200 homes. Quite recently, the local authority spent £25 million refurbishing the Southwater village centre, making it a very desirable area with increasing demand for quality new homes. Nearby Southwater Country Park is a popular 70-acre site with three manmade lakes and numerous paths through woodland and open spaces.
This was a 14-month contract for the first phases of Mulberry Park. There were 121 residential units of varying sizes and styles. Bracknell carried out all tiling and leadwork on a zone-by-zone basis, in line with the client’s programme. Several tile types were used from market-leading producers. The Redland tiling products used were the classically proportioned DuoPlain, versatile Plain and interlocking concrete Pantile. Also fixed were Sandtoft concrete plain tiles. All specifications came from the Miller Homes Design Team. The roofing leadwork, primarily to stop rainwater entering junctions and channel water away, had a decorative function as well.
Nationally operating Miller Homes has built well over 100,000 houses and is a longstanding client of Bracknell Roofing. It has a fundamental reliance on the fact that Bracknell Roofing operates to uncompromising standards of quality and safety. It complies with ISO14001:2015, OHSAS18001:2007 and ISO9001:2015 – triple accreditation offering assurance to all customers. Then there is the record of successful business cooperation between the two companies. Yet again, this time in West Sussex, Miller Homes took the Bracknell Roofing route, knowing that it would be large enough to trust but sufficiently small to care: an on-site partner as well as subcontractor.
“We always enjoy working on Miller Homes’s sites as they are always so well managed. The technical detailing presented no problems, as the various roof shapes could be described as standard. Working alongside other trades went without hitch. It all contributed to another project completed on time and to the client’s satisfaction, within the agreed budget. If there was a potential pitfall, it was deliveries during an extended period of tile shortages. All credit to our purchasing team for their skills, perseverance and contacts, making sure we were never held up.”
