The McCarthy & Stone development in Godalming, Surrey, is the site of both a new church for the First Church of Christ, Scientist, and the Caesars Place retirement living development. Not to be confused with the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar, Caesars Place pays homage to another Julius Caesar: the widely renowned cricketer who played for Surrey and England between 1849 and 1867 and who was born and educated in Godalming.
This is another stunning development by the UK’s leading retirement housing builder, which has built more than 51,000 apartments nationwide in the last 40 years.
The project consisted of pitched roofing and flat roofing, with Sandtoft Plain Tile Concrete Brindle on the care home and Sandtoft Alban Plain Tile Clay Sussex Blend on the church roof.
In total, 1,056 m2 of Renolit Single Ply flat roofing was applied, included on gulleys, boxed areas and parapet walls. The 77m2 Axter Hyranger System was covered in decking, and the 436 m2 Axter Wilotekt Plus System was covered with planted areas and slabs.
Our roofing teams worked closely with the bricklayers and carpenters on site to ensure each deadline was met at every stage of development.
Bracknell Roofing’s exemplary work on McCarthy & Stone’s Hillborough House development in Bexhill was the reason why it secured this project.
McCarthy & Stone was delighted that Bracknell Roofing completed the project on time, well within budget and to a very high standard.
It was also impressed at the responsiveness of the project management team at Bracknell Roofing, the way it was able to keep staff on track with the programme of works (even when changes were required, such as changing specifications) and how the right amount of roofing contractors were always on site at the right times.
“We were really impressed with Bracknell Roofing’s work on Hillborough House, and we wanted to work with them again on Caesars Place because it was very clear that we work well together.
“The standard of workmanship has been excellent and the attention to detail is outstanding. For example, the mitred hips on the Mansard areas required high attention to detail to ensure a neat finish; the lead dormers had a lead rose finish and were completed by a skilled lead worker.
“We have no hesitation in recommending Bracknell Roofing, and we will be working with them on our next project.”
