Blenheim Court Care Home on the outskirts of the beautiful village of Liss, Hampshire, offers a luxury age-exclusive lifestyle. There are 14 two-bedroomed apartments and an adjacent care home with accommodation for up to 60 people. Also on site are a choice of restaurants, a bar with a bistro, a beauty salon, a cinema, a music room, a library and a playroom for visiting children. Overall, the development consists of three separate blocks, and Bracknell was commissioned to carry out all of the roofing for specialist nursing home and associated care contractor Lawrence Baker. Its health and safety procedures are amongst the most stringent in the industry.
The design for Blenheim Court was across three plots and involved many valleys, dormers, flashings and abutments. For example, there were 20 lead-clad dormers, increasing the usable space for residents. Marley Ashmore smooth brown tiles were fitted to the main roof. Marley Heather Blend plain tiles were specified for the verticals. Rendered Renolit Single Ply was used on the flat roofs. The Bracknell Roofing operatives had to liaise with the carpenters in particular to ensure that all roofing areas were dealt with in a precise order, in order to maintain the schedule. As usual, the project was completed on time and to budget.
It was important to main contractor Lawrence Baker that all of Bracknell Roofing’s work complied with the latest British Standard, BS5534:2014, covering slating and tiling for pitched roofs and vertical tiling. This stringent code of practice relates to the design, materials, application, installation and performance of slates, tiles, shingles and slates. A further factor in the contractor’s choice was Bracknell Roofing’s reputation for health and safety compliance on its sites. Demonstrating that it is large enough to trust yet sufficiently small to care, Bracknell Roofing was proud to be involved with this important project, completed in January 2018.
“This was a large and challenging project on a sloping site, requiring all works and trades to be coordinated throughout. Having a subcontractor such as Bracknell Roofing was a bonus, and the input from their teams was excellent. After Blenheim Court, I moved on to Lawrence Baker’s largest contract to date, with Bracknell chosen to carry out the roofing.”
