Ben Humphreys is halfway through his two-year Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) apprenticeship and has grasped the opportunity of being part of the busy Finance team at Bracknell Roofing.
Eighteen-year-old Ben is working alongside our Assistant Management Accountant to learn all aspects of management accounts and is getting involved in making payments to contractors, managing the month-end accounts, and managing balance sheets and profit and loss statements.
He is enjoying the fact that he’s learning something new every day within a business that is one of the leading roof slating and tiling contractors in the UK.
“I studied accountancy for a year at college before joining, and I’ve really had to hit the ground running because of the pace at which the teamwork,” said Ben.
“It’s a fantastic learning ground for me because I’m working with some very knowledgeable and experienced people, who are very generous in supporting me and getting me involved in a range of different management accounts, tasks, and activities.
“I’m looking to develop my skills, experience, and knowledge so that I can continue to make a positive contribution to the company.”
Finance Director Paul Williams says that Ben is showing plenty of promise and that his progress highlights the value of apprenticeships.
“Bracknell Roofing actively invests in talented young people, and Ben is a great example of someone who has joined us and has become an asset to our department,” said Paul.
“The long-term sustainability of our business relies on nurturing the next generation in every aspect of our business, from those on the tools through to roles in departments such as Finance.”
