Expert roofing knowledge, adaptability and developing a close working relationship with Sheffield City Council and lead contractor, Kier ensured Bracknell Roofing helped complete a major Decent Homes scheme in Sheffield to re-roof 100 homes on time and to a high standard.
As part of a Sheffield City Council Regeneration scheme, lead contractor Kier asked Bracknell Roofing to undertake phase one of the project involving re-roofing and roofline replacements. The housing project was the first time the Midlands Branch of Bracknell Roofing had worked with Kier, so it had to adapt quickly to meet Kier standards and comply with its policies as well as procedures. Bracknell Roofing soon impressed with its ability to adapt swiftly to these challenges and contribute to the overall success of the project with its vast roofing knowledge.
As a result of the skills and experience gained from this project, Bracknell Roofing has now established a team of operatives that can offer specialist expertise for future Decent Homes programmes.
The roofing contractor also delivered technical support to ensure smooth completion of the refurbishments, working closely with Sheffield City Council as well as the Kier site management team in the process. As such, the installation of Marley Eternit’s Duo Edgemere concrete tiles and Swish roofline products was completed to the highest standards, ensuring residents in 100 properties have secure and protective roofs over their heads.
Keith Naylor, operations manager at Kier, says: “We were impressed with Bracknell Roofing’s expertise and ability to quickly form an excellent working relationship with the Kier team as well as adapting to our processes. Bracknell Roofing’s on-site working supervisor provided great insight and knowledge. This certainly helped when specifying and fitting the correct products for providing high quality homes for Sheffield residents. The success of the project has ensured we’ll seek to work with Bracknell’s team in the future.”
Bracknell Roofing’s capability and experience also helped with the safe compliance to traffic restrictions during the project. This assisted with one of the challenges on the site in particular. As the site was on a housing estate and situated in a concentrated area, it had to adhere to tight restrictions around traffic flow and residential roads, which Bracknell Roofing’s team helped manage effectively. The result was minimal interference throughout the project for local residents ensuring the surrounding area is safe
One local resident commented: “Myself and my wife are very contented with the work done and I found the on-site team to be a very hard working and reliable work force which I felt very comfortable and safe around.”
Ian Bladon, regional contracts director at Bracknell Roofing, says: “During this project we adapted to the lead contractor’s processes and worked closely with both Kier and the client, showing that we not only have site management skills and roofing expertise but, also an adaptability to work closely with a number of organisations, which is key to working on larger projects. Working with Kier for the first time has given us a platform to demonstrate our expertise in both roofing and site management.”
Following the success of this relationship and workmanship, Bracknell has been awarded further Decent Homes work on a project again with Kier and North West Leicestershire Council. The Bracknell team is currently undertaking the refurbishment and re-pointing of 23 properties, with the possibility of the scheme being extended to other properties in the area.
