Housing

Services Provided:

Main Contractor:

Morris Homes

The project

Victoria Park is on the outskirts of the historic Oxfordshire market town of Banbury and within easy reach of the charming village of Bloxham. This private housing scheme offers all of the benefits of semi-rural living but with public transport links, with good access to the M40 motorway and being just 20 miles from the university city of Oxford, plus nearby shopping and leisure facilities. Built by Morris Homes, the choice is two-bedroomed through to five-bedroomed dwellings of high specification. The completed mix is one of semi-detached, detached and terraced housing.

The roofing installation

This was a highly skilled roofing operation. Part of the development saw the creation of a large, crescent-shaped block of three-storey apartments, with a row of dormer windows on the top level. Construction of the crescent was in stone with a fibre cement slate curved roof. Much of the roofing detail needed to be finalised on site. Exceptionally labour intensive, the materials had to be graded and sized, then each tile and slate cut to fit, in order to keep the curves and maintain bond. Although this was the most striking feature at Victoria Park, Bracknell Roofing also supplied and fitted pitched tiling to another 120 new homes. The materials used were Sandtoft 20/20 Tuscan and Antique tiles, plus Marley Eternit Thrutone cement roof slates.

Why Bracknell Roofing?

Morris Homes called on the expertise of Bracknell Roofing for this extensive, varied project. The contractor knew that the project would demand an abundance of knowledge and on-site expertise. Accuracy and skilled workmanship were going to be imperative from start to finish. The convex and concave roofing to the crescent-shaped apartment block was a work of art. All work was completed on time, within budget and to the entire satisfaction of Morris Homes – part of a portfolio of around 6,000 roofs per year from the Bracknell team. Yet again, the company demonstrated that it is large enough to trust but small enough to care.

Testimonial

“Victoria Park has become a much-heralded housing development, and we were delighted to play a part. It gave us the opportunity to display our breadth of roofing experience and tip-top levels of workmanship. It was labour intensive, and the tight deadlines at every stage required proactive dovetailing with other trades. It’s all part of the Bracknell Roofing service.”
