Roofing specialist Bracknell Roofing has successfully completed a complex flat roofing project on a major development of apartments for Kier Homes in Leighton Buzzard, incorporating two separate roofing solutions to meet the project needs.
With many years’ expertise and experience of handling a range of flat roofing systems, Bracknell Roofing was able to overcome the particular challenges it faced on the development, including the need to adapt to a changing roofing system specification as the project progressed.
Phase one of the project was completed using the originally specified Bauder Thermofol single ply system across a 1900 square meter roof area, but due to changing specification needs to improve the durability of the roof further, the ongoing project was altered to use a Kemperol cold applied liquid roofing system.
Another challenge that unfolded during the works was the difficulty in sourcing the necessary cappings for the parapet walls. Without disrupting the work already in progress, the Bracknell team was able to source the materials required without delay, manufacturing bespoke Alkor metal pressed cappings using its in-house press facility.
The project saw the team successfully, and within the original timescale, blend together the two entirely different roofing solutions - Bauder Thermofol U15 Single Ply Menbrane and Kemperol V210 Liquid Waterproofing - to ensure all areas including large and small terrace areas and balconies were robust and aesthetically-sound.
The team’s proactive approach allowed Kier Homes to maintain its construction schedule accurately and alleviate the possibility of delays to the development completion deadline.
Looking at future maintenance needs for the two flat roofing systems, Bracknell Roofing also fitted a full man safe system to guarantee a safe working environment for those responsible for the ongoing upkeep of the roofing structures.
